# The MSP Client Segmentation Framework

The MSP Client Segmentation Framework groups clients by current value, growth potential and service cost, so account managers, support teams and sales leaders can allocate effort to the accounts that justify it and protect margin on the rest.

Not every client deserves the same level of attention. Some drive most of the profit. Some have room to grow. Some consume support hours out of proportion to their fee. Segmentation makes the difference visible.

## Value axis

Value is the contribution the client makes to gross margin after direct service costs. High-value clients should receive proactive account management, dedicated escalation paths and regular business reviews.

## Growth axis

Growth potential measures how much more the client could buy in the next planning months. Clients with high growth potential are candidates for capability mapping and staged expansion proposals.

## Service-cost axis

Service cost is the support and engineering effort the client consumes relative to their fee. High-cost, low-value clients erode margin and should be moved to a more appropriate tier or offboarded.

## Segment playbooks

Each segment gets a playbook: meeting cadence, support tier, account manager coverage and expansion strategy. The playbook prevents every account from being treated as a custom engagement.

> [!NOTE]
> Segment thresholds are placeholders pending operations-team verification.
